I dunno first few lines of DJ Shadow and RTJ just had me reaching for the skip button. Thought El Alfa et al. were great, a golden beat I think.

It’s muy tonto but can’t help but smile at Hablamos Nunca. Hundred Waters really good as well.

Yeah, it’s pretty dumb stuff, but I’m never not amused by the “So when are we going to talk then?”-“Yeah, never” exchange near the start. And each of the rappers brings a little something different and interesting to the table.

The tried and tested combination of El Alfa and beatmaker/producer Chael Produciendo is pure Dominican dembow gold. I hadn’t heard this particular track, so it actually qualifies as a Golden Beat as well.

“Nobody Speak” feels incredibly dated now — can’t disassociate it from hearing it as soundtrack music in what feels like an interminable number of paint-by-numbers semi-edgy netflix action binfillers. Savages also feel dated, in the special fast-dated way that retro/revival material ages. They still got my vote though, on the grounds of visceral energy.

Always have time for RTJs particular brand of braggado and there are some classic lines here, but I’ve never heard ‘Murmers’ and really liked it so voted for that

The video for Savages has an interminable intro but the song is great and I’m sad it seems that the band have irrevocably if unofficially split, having not recorded or performed since 2016. Visceral indeed.

Savages’ was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. All the raw power in their debut translated so fiercely in a live settting. “Shut Up” makes me remember that feeling so well.
DJ Shadow/RTJ and Hundred Waters are also personal favorites of mine, but I voted Savages.
