No real comments on the songs this round – could have voted for any of 3, and I’ll see how the survivors hit me in Round 1. That Lisa Hannigan LP sleeve is just lovely though.

I liked the J Maya song, this is really good – and lots of book/library cliches in the lyrics. I hope it gets through. I liked the country-ish music on the Alex G track, but the vocal is not that great. Charlene and Lisa just a bit too grown-up or entirely pleasant for my liking

Liked all of these light pop tunes. Probably Lisa (“She’s Irish?!? That changes everything”) or J. Maya. Though now that we have “Driver’s License” and “Library Card”, maybe we should just go all the way back and write a song called “Birth Certificate”. “Now I can prove that I was born/Why am I so forlorn?”, I dunno, you guys work on it.

The singing in Miracles is really lovely. Harmonics reminded me of “Ship of Fools” from Cale, which I mean as a high complement.

I discovered “Library Card” during Aaron’s #CluedoPop game earlier this year, and it really grabbed me. J Maya’s story spoke to me, the metaphors are puntastic, and it sounds just like a library, proper banging. But by then we were already halfway through the 2022 poll, so I thought I should take my chance to nominate it now.
But who buys a library card!?

In the way of all polls, we reached the end of the 2022 contest and a few songs felt notably absent. Alex G’s ” Runner” was one of these; I’ll be curious to see how “Miracles” goes. (Soon, we’ll encounter one of my nominations, which I picked because it was another notable 2022 polling omission.)

Does J Maya think kryptonite is good? Cos otherwise that line doesn’t make sense. That is actually going to bother me now.
Oh, Alex G is good, it is hard to do this music in a way that I like but he’s done it and gets my vote.
