Industrial sounding singer song writer, never really gonna be for me. Enjoyed Wu Lu, liked the rhythm. Thought the Mars Volta were a metal band? Mastodon are one of those metal bands that I find to be not that fun, more strict to the groove/vocals in a vacuum thing than doing anything super-exciting.

Wu-Lu is, somewhat, local for me – though I don’t live as far north in Lambeth as he does. I actually first heard this blasting out of a car stereo driving by me on the street. Maybe there’s a local street team…
Anyway, I eventually tracked it down and was super impressed once I’d heard the whole thing. I don’t know why I didn’t nominate it for 2022 – I think I might have to put it down to forgetfulness as I get older.
Never heard of Wu Lyf…

They were art rock lads from Manchester, talked a reasonable game IIRC but as is so often the case with UK bands didn’t play that game. Depressingly I had in my head they were around 5 years ago or so, not, er, 13.

Cheers – doesn’t sound that inspiring.
I remembered now why I didn’t nominate Wu-Lu in 2022 – I heard it then but it was a lead single for that album and the single was released in early 2021 (Source: Bandcamp), so I was well behind the curve.

Even if The Mars Volta’s Blacklight Shine is not my nomination (mine is Chelsea Wolfe), I have to note that the video on YouTube adds more than 8 minutes of music that are not officially part of the song. So keep this in mind when you listen/vote.
I love these guys. Saw them live yesterday.

Three acts very much from my musical Umwelt that a lot of my friends love, but I personally am pretty ambivalent about. Because of that Umwelt I had Wu Lu confused with Wucan, but although his song is not bad, it is no Wie die Welt sich dreht.
Went with Chelsea Wolfe.

Loved both the Chelsea Wolfe and Wu Lu tracks, both potential GBs for me, but didn’t hear anything in Mars Volta that changed my pretty unfavourable opinion of them.

Another fine group. I suppose given Omargeddon it shouldn’t have been a surprise to discover TMV in pop mode, but it was. Nearly voted for them, however in the end “South” had an off-kilter feel that appealed and merited a reward slightly more.
