Sault are very good but Jobseeker, along with Tied Up in Notts, is Sleaford Mods at their most quintessential and, though I prefer the later version, this has to get my vote. The band of our time.

Not going to say as much this time in case the formatting goes awry again 🙂
Just that Offence-Boss-Selfish-Wounds-Venom-101 FM is quite possibly my vote for the greatest opening six tracks of any album this century.
And Venom “a feminist mental health anthem” (as if that even conveys how monumental this 2:34 feels) is the best thing Simz has ever done, and probably ever will do.

First heard “Venom” when it was a Spotify recommendation on one of my wife’s playlists in the car, we both sat there jaws open for 2 and a half minutes. Don’t think I’ve heard anything else by her I like as much.

Similarly, this version of “Jobseeker” was the first Sleaford Mods track I heard and while they’ve done other good ones this still smokes everything else by them. Absolutely has to be this version IMO – the speedfreak relentlessness of the Yardbirds sample is what makes it, perfect recontextualisation/reclamation of the fuck-you elements of 60s mod.

It seems harsh to put other songs in a group with Venom, and I’m confused that people are voting for them as well.

The later version of Jobseeker is my favourite SM track and not just because I managed to flog my 7″ of it for 150 quid. This one very much feels like a work in progress, too jaunty and missing that intro that gets me every time. So I’m going Simz here. Furious stuff.

Prob my least fave of the early KKB Songs, it’s just not as bouncy as, er, Trampoline (Lipslap is an all time banger though). Voted Sault which was as much of a surprise to me as anyone

There’s a catchy/annoying line which a lot of people may think KKB are on the wrong side of. I can happily stomach a lot of them, but trampoline has always been a bounce too far for me. Flamingo on the other hand just makes me happy every single time

Spent a few nights in cartel territory in Chiapas, found a Mexican narco rap bar that was pretty welcoming and got chatting after time. Tried to get them to break up the drogas y putas sounds with some different things so they put on some old school WC gangsta then eventually asked me what was happing in Britain at the time.
I’m proud to say I went on the laptop and put on a live version of Jobseeker, to the utter bafflement of everyone in the bar.
