We don’t normally get things like Bo Burnham in the polls so I was keen to put it in and yet I have no intention of ever getting past the first 15 seconds.

I’d urge folks to try to give it a full listen — might not be your favorite, but it goes a few interesting places not captured by the first seconds, and the chorus of “interest you in everything all of the time” became a bit of a tiktok meme, summing up our hyperactive social-feed moment for a lot of people.

nothing represents the chasm between “what the internet was/could’ve been” and “what the internet is now” better than paul wall vs. bo burnham. and i mean that as an insult to bo burnham.

Voted for Burnham but kinda hoping it loses so I won’t have to listen to it again. But he did hold the floor better than Marina Diamandis, my second choice – though I always like hearing Marina’s voice, and I almost voted for her on that account.

I assumed ‘Welcome to the Internet’ was about 20 years old until I got to the “boomer groomer zoomer” bit. It sounds like it was written to play over a Flash animation on Newgrounds. Inexplicable to still be writing Harry Potter Rule 34 jokes in 2021, unless you’re Lemon Demon waking up from a cryogenic sleep.

And nobody still needs to be “welcomed” to the internet! We’re all here already!
