Strong agree on “Laws Have Changed” — probably my favorite NP track, just hit me like a torrent when I first played the LP, such a joyous blast. One of about three tracks I will use for my alarm clock, which keeps it in extremely regular rotation. (This is high praise, because I need a song that makes me actually want to prefer listening to it than hit snooze).

Went with Deerhunter because I find “Helicopter” particularly haunting, but good with the current leaders going through.

I liked Spoon carrying on the long indie tradition of sounding a bit Phil Spector. Deerhunter sound better than I remember, a bit more listenable. I’m sure Satan is saying ‘yes, what do you want? The metal guys are much specific you know?’. I liked the New Pornographers, I must dig out my discarded copy of the CD…

That CYHSY album back to back with Flaming Lips’ ‘At War With The Mystics’ made me really cautious about Dave Fridmann-produced albums. Just two of the most viscerally unpleasant-sounding albums I ever sat through.

Now this? This is a damn good group. Three classics plus a vaguely acceptable Clap You Hands And Say “Annoying Band Name” filler track.”The Laws Have Changed” might be the definitive New Pornographers song, the contrast between vocals and dynamics give it a “Lazy Line Painter Jane” feel.

I like this spoon track but prefer them in a slightly more downbeat mode. The other songs are new to me, quite like Satan Said Dance.
