These are all Bracket Balancers – to be specific, the Top 4 BBs you voted for! All from years we’re not likely to poll in the near future.
Oh wow I never realised this either!
This must have been obvious to people less dumb than me, but I racked up an embarrassing number of plays of 'Fuck the Pain Away' before I first learned that it's a live recording. Like, there isn't […]
I remember consciously not listening to this Broadcast album over and over 20 years ago so as to not wear it out and it worked, I still love it so much. But this Solange song is wonderful too. […]
hunktears on twitter said it perfectly: "electroclash was such an important cultural force of the 2000s. some coked out lady in sunglasses saying "I eat pussy" over and over again in a dumb neon […]
A Curated Group by Dan C aka @dc_goblue on Twitter. Can you guess its theme?
Buck's sousaphone parp gets my vote
Not from the South, not from the 21st century
One for the curator obviously but I'd imagine it would have had to be something other than Bust-A-Move since it got a go in the 2nd Chances poll (where it sadly bombed out early for unaccountable […]
Why no Young MC?
Our second Curated Group today comes from Patrick Van D and I don’t think it’s themed, just a collection of faves!
Sorry that Jlin got demolished in the voting. Standout Golden Beat for me, hope it makes it there!
3 really nice songs (I was leaning towards Bis) but Jlin is one of those things that grabs my ear and doesn't let go - especially with the choreography.
Between The Thermals track and Japandroids lies an invisible border for me where 'nice & catchy garage sound' becomes 'annoying punkpop earworm'.
Jlin is one of the singular great artists of our time in a way that is quite rare. Voted for her, although I enjoyed Japandroids too.
It's the best song on the album by some distance (IMO obvs). Worth a go though!
I mean the album cover alone suggests she's fully invested in the bit. More power to her!
Voted for Pearl partly for the sheer cheek of the ABBA steal, but there’s a strong song in there too, and I’ve saved the album on Spotify.
Not familiar with any of these artists (well, apart from Metallica) but I liked all these tunes. I plumped for Into the Wild. Not usually my cup of tea but its clattering build drew me in. The […]
Great group, with three GBs. I like both the original "SeeSea" and this remix of it a lot. And I loooove me some brega funk (it's even better with (simulated) horn/brass stabs, I find). But I went […]
Group of the day (if ‘day’ means anything anymore in the new format). No weak links at all here. Voted Machinedrum, who I have followed quite closely in the past tho I didn’t know this track - on […]
Sorry Most Chill Slackmob and Loma E As Gemeas Lacracao, you're tracks are fine, but they don't have the Molalatladi guitar solo and I'm a guitar guy.
Most Chill Slackmob really sounds like Portishead “Mysterons” to me. Got my vote
It’s the final week of Modern Qualifiers! Today we’ve got a particularly gruesome Bracket Balancer headline group, a couple of cracking Curated Groups and a further venture into the Low Shazam Zone. Best get on with it eh?
